Fanny Lemira Gillette (1828–1926) was an American cookbook author best known for The White House Cook Book, co-authored with Hugo Ziemann, who served as steward of the White House. First published in 1887, the book became one of the most popular and enduring American cookbooks of the late 19th century.

The cookbook covers a comprehensive range of topics beyond recipes, including table etiquette, dinner-giving, health suggestions, and household management. It captures American cooking at a pivotal moment—when the country was transitioning from traditional hearth cooking to the modern kitchen.

Ziemann’s experience as a professional caterer and White House steward lent the book authority and prestige, while Gillette’s practical approach made it accessible to everyday American households.
